Benefits of using the scripting program
Use of a program goes beyond just making the judging sheets look nicer:
- In North America and countries where gymnasts / coachces don't spend a full day at the gym, maximizing the efficiency inside / outside the gym will be part of a winning formulae.
- Changes to a routine does not require manually erasing or shifting everything, it is a simple point-click-reprint.
- Coaches are not paper pushers. Eventually all the extra hours of scripting needs to be compensated in one way or another. Delegating the scripting task frees up to coach to do what they do best - to be coach and be creative.
- The charts for Body elements and for the apparatus allows each gymnast to print their 'own code' in their personal binder. Use this printed copy together with a yellow highlighter can make learning fun.
- Even for very young gymnasts where scripting is not required, after she sees the technical movements, she understands her routine a lot better - knows where the emphasis is as well as what is considered correct.
- Judges have consistently found sheets filled with errors - self invented symbols, artistic value symbols in technical column, wrong way of flowing, wrong difficulty value, etc. With the use of the program, you can avoid some of the common deductions for symbol, value and calculation errors.
- A standard form with standard symbols makes it so much easier to read. If a judge struggles to read your script, he / she will not be able to keep their eyes on the routine - hence possibly missing elements.
- A gymnast is encouraged to maintain the routine sheet as it is being choreographed. This helps in their understanding as well as memorizing the routine. It also helps the coach in counting and seeing the implications and inserting difficulties/apparatus elements better. With a program, you can afford to maintain multiple versions of the routines for different competitions.
- Some coaches find it much easier to see the routine on a piece of paper to validate the points, the variety, to find the dominating body group, etc.
- It is much easier to keep an electronic audit trail of a routine. It helps in tracking the development and growth of a gymnast and her routines.
- Since year 2000, the forms have changed significantly back and forth. However, the way to interact with the program has not changed signigicantly. Because the program is used by more than clubs from quite a few countries, corrections and changes are shared.
- If you ever find a need to update and print the script again while you are travelling, if you either bring a diskette, or send your routine to your web email account, all you then need is access to the internet and you can easily update and print the sheets again.
